Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will arrive in Kathmandu on a special plane after three Thursday afternoon.
The itinerary of the two-day visit of Swaraj, who is arriving with top officials of the the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, however has not been revealed. The Foreign Ministry says it officially does not know anything apart from that she will arrive after 3 pm.
"She is expected to arrive at around 3/3:30, and will reportedly talk with leaders of political parties," deputy spokesperson at the ministry Ram Babu Dhakal said. "The Indian Embassy has not given any other information to us."
He said Swaraj will visit President Bidhya Dev Bhandari and Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba, who also has the foreign ministry, but the time has yet to be decided.
This is the first visit by a high-level Indian leader after the election of federal parliament and provincial assemblies in Nepal.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has called Swaraj's visit continuity of the tradition of regular high-level political exchanges between the two countries, and said she will hold discussions with political leaders of Nepal on issues of mutual interest, and to advance age-old, special ties of friendship between India and Nepal.
Swaraj is scheduled to return Friday evening.
