CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and the visiting Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Awaraj has held a one-on-one meeting at Soaltee Crowne Plaza Thursday evening.
Press coordinator of Oli Chetan Adhikari said the two leaders talked for almost 45 minutes after starting at 6:45 pm. "The Indian delegation and UML leaders talked after that," Adhikari said. What the two leaders talked has not been revealed.
Spokesperson at the Indian Minister of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar tweeted that Swaraj congratulated Oli on his party's victory in the recent elections during the meeting. "The two held wide ranging discussions on ways to take the special relationship between India and Nepal forward," Kumar tweeted.
This was Swaraj's first political meeting after arriving for a two-day visit on a special plane with senior officials of her ministry at four Thursday afternoon.
UML has hosted a banquet at Soaltee Crown Plaza in honor of Swaraj.
Leaders of Madhes-based parties Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal will also go to Soaltee to meet Swaraj after completion of UML's banquet.
Swaraj had told reporters after landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) that she has not come to Nepal with any agenda.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has called Swaraj's visit continuity of the tradition of regular high-level political exchanges between the two countries.
Swaraj will visit President Bidhya Dev Bhandari and Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba, who also has the foreign ministry, on Friday. She will meet President Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas at noon and then go to Baluwatar to meet PM Deuba.
She will also meet CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday.
