The Election Commission (EC) will write to the parties to submit the list of persons for the House of Representatives (HoR) to be elected through the proportional representation (PR) system Thursday itself.
Commissioner Narendra Dahal said the EC is preparing to write to the parties at around three in the afternoon. The EC knows the composition of the each party's representatives in the federal parliament now that the result of National Assembly election has also arrived. It will write to parties to send names for HoR through PR system including the necessary number of women and other clusters to ensure that each party will have at least one-third women representatives in the federal parliament that includes both HoR and National Assembly.
The EC has already amended the guidelines for election of HoR through PR system and shortened the deadline given to the parties for submitting the closed list to three days from seven. It has similarly shortened the deadline given to the parties to correct the lists to two days from three.
The HoR has a total of 275 members with 165 already elected through first-past-the-post (FPTP). Another 110 will be elected through the PR system.
CPN-UML has won 41 seats in the HoR through PR system, Nepali Congress (NC) 40, CPN (Maoist Center) 17, and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) six each based on the proportion of PR votes they received in the recent federal elections.
