CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli will become prime minister (PM) Thursday itself.
Leaders of left alliance reached the President's Office Thursday morning claiming Oli has support of the majority of House of Representatives (HoR) members. UML and Maoist Center together have 174 seats in the 275-strong HoR.
The standing committee meeting of UML held at a house in Man Bhawan, Lalitpur on Wednesday had proposed Chairman Oli as PM. Maoist Center has agreed to accept Oli as PM first as part of the agreement to take turn to lead the government.
The Election Commission (EC) had submitted the final results of HoR elections to President Bidya Devi Bhandari Wednesday evening, 70 days after the elections were completed.
Five parties have become national parties following the elections held over two rounds on November 26 and December 7, 2017. UML has become the single largest party winning 80 seats through first-past-the-post (FPTP) system and 41 through the PR system.
Nepali Congress (NC) is second winning 40 through PR and and 23 through FPTP systems. Maoist Center, that won 36 seats in FPTP system after forging an alliance with UML, is third with 53 after winning 17 through PR system.
Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) have won 11 and 10 seats respectively through FPTP system and six each through PR system.
