The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) on Tuesday has accused President Bidhya Devi Bhandari of partisanship in nomination of three National Assembly members.
Holding a press conference at the party's central office in Sanepa, NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma took exception to the nomination of three National Assembly members.
The President’s Office earlier on the day nominated former Nepal Rastra Bank governor Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Ram Narayan Bidari and Bimala Paudel on the basis of recommendation made by the Cabinet meeting Tuesday morning.
The caretaker Sher Bahadur Deuba government had also recommended Gopal Basnet, Krishna Prasad Paudel and Chandani Joshi for National Assembly on February 11 but the President’s Office sat on the recommendation stating that the government made the recommendation unilaterally without consulting with parties.
He argued that the President should endorse the recommendations made by the government as per the constitution. "She acted unconstitutionally by obstructing the three names recommended for National Assembly by the Deuba government," he stated.
"She looked at the previous government with one lens and the new one with another," he accused. He added that NC has taken exception to the decision of the new government to take back the recommendation made by the previous government .
Sharma said the party will decide on the role to play in the parliament depending on the attitude that the government will show.
