Eight Supreme Court (SC) justices have boycotted bench on Tuesday after Chief Justice (CJ) Gopal Parajuli refused to recuse himself from delivery of justice as advised by them. The eight have not taken part in any bench assigned for Tuesday.
The eight justices include Hari Krishna Karki, Sapana Pradhan Malla, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Ishwore Khatiwada, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha, Deepak Raj Joshi and Prakash Singh Raut. "We have taken the decision after deliberating among ourselves," a justice who has boycotted the bench told Setopati.
CJ Parajuli has set up 11 benches for Tuesday.
Hearing on the assigned benches at the SC generally starts after 11 in the morning. But the eight justices did not report for their respective benches.
Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, who boycotted the Parajuli-led full bench for contempt of court cases against Dr Govinda KC and Kantipur on Monday, was not included in any of the benches on Tuesday.
Hearing in the rest of the benches, however, continues.
CJ Parajuli, Tej Bahadur KC, Om Prakash Mishra, Dambar Bahadur Shahi, Deepak Kumar Karki, Tanka Moktan, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Sarada Prasad Ghimire, Purushottam Bhandari, Mira Khadka and Bam Kumar Shrestha.
