The government on Tuesday has appointed Pushpa Kandel as the vice-chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC). The Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday has decided to pick Kandel, who is also the chairman of CPN-UML Central Accounting Commission, to head the federal body for planning.
Kandel, a local of Benighat of Dhading, has a PhD in taxation. He was also a lecturer teaching management at Tribhuvan University. Kandel, who started his service as assistant lecturer, taught in TU for 30 years. He had tendered his resignation from the post three years ago.
"I've resigned from the post after my political responsibility started to increase," Kandel told Setopati, "To be a chairman in Accounting Commission in UML means to be an invited member."
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a discussion on the appointment of vice-chairman earlier on Tuesday morning.
The Tuesday's Cabinet meeting has also appointed Usha Jha, Dil Bahadur Gurung, Sushil Bhatta, Krishna Prasad Oli, Min Bahadur Shahi and Ram Kumar Phuyal as members of the NPC.
