The government has aimed for a double-digit economic growth for the upcoming fiscal year and claimed that per capita income will double in the next five years.
Presenting the policies and programs in the joint meeting of the federal parliament, President Bidya Devi Bhandari said the government is working to increase the economic growth rate to close to double digits.
The policies and programs also aim to double agricultural output within five years through modernization and commercialization of agriculture, and by stopping fragmentation of land and adopting a policy of use of all arable land.
Similarly, the government has said that all kinds of government payment will be made through banks and cooperatives and the government will launch a campaign for opening bank accounts of every citizen for the purpose.
The government has said Prime Minister Employment Program will be brought to absorb Nepali labor force and claimed that Nepalis will not have to go for foreign employment within the next five years.
Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli earlier presented the book of the government policies and programs to President Bhandari for presenting it before the joint sitting.
As per the constitutional provision, President may address either a meeting of any House or a joint sitting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament, and summon the members for that purpose.
The federal budget has to be presented on 15th of Nepali month Jestha (end of May) every year as per the constitution, while the provincial and local-level budgets have to be brought on the first and 10th days of the Nepali month Ashadh every year respectively.
Deliberations on the government policies and programs will held in both Houses within the next few days and the PM will respond to the queries raised by the parliamentarians to this regard. The policies and programs will then be passed by presenting it before the both Houses for decisions.
