Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and former prime minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has accused political parties of piggybacking on the fast-unto-death of Dr Govinda KC.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Monday, Dahal has accused the parties of trying to lead the country toward instability riding on Dr KC's fast at a time when the government is increasing budget and investment on education for reform of the sector, and is prioritizing scientific and technical education.
"Some have been saying that nationalization of medical colleges is panacea to all the ills, be it the issues raised by Dr KC or the report of Mathema committee. But that is not the truth. The constitution envisions moving the country's economy and social system forward through coordination of private, public and cooperative sectors. We cannot completely eradicate the private sector," Dahal stressed.
He accused the main opposition Nepali Congress, without naming it, of trying to create a political storm through Dr KC's fast. "There is an attempt to piggyback on some individual's fast-unto-death and to create a political storm. They don't allow to save Dr KC's life, sit for dialogue with him, do health examinations of him through government doctors, and be flexible in dialogue, and are saying they would only concur if the medical education ordinance is implemented as it is. They are focusing not on resolving the problem and are trying to compound the problem and spread anarchy," Dahal fumed.
He argued that everything should be resolved through a system in a democracy. "We are exercising democracy. Why do we need this charade of election, constitution, people's representatives, provincial assemblies and the local level if we are to do whatever a few individuals say?" he asked. "It is democratic to not question their legitimacy but to seek resolution through the system therein."
He claimed that those who do not want stability and prosperity in Nepal are trying to fish in troubled waters using the age-old ploy, and stressed that they must be collectively defeated.
