The special committee for parliamentary hearing has received complaint that acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshi dozes on the bench during hearing of cases.
The special committee had called for complaints against Joshi who was recommended for the post of CJ by the Constitutional Council on June 12. One of the five complaints received by the committee claims that Joshi is ineligible for the post as he dozes on the bench and also uses tobacco products.
Another complainant points that Joshi held wedding ceremony of his son and engagement of daughter from five-star hotels.
Yet another complainant claims that he spent Rs 9 million in the wedding of his son and Rs 2 million in the engagement of daughter. "Where did he get that money from? He did not seem to have paid that from his bank account or through any other assets. Should a CJ not reveal source of his expenditure?" the complainant argues.
The complainant claims that Joshi made Chuda Mani Sharma, who has been accused of corruption, Narayan Dahal, Kalu Gurung and others pay for wedding of his son Prabindra Joshi.
Joshi has also been accused of illegally registering land of a social organization (guthi) near the residences of prime minister and CJ in Baluwatar in the name of an individual. He has also been accused of conniving with corrupt and black-marketeers.
The special committee will conduct hearing on appointment of Joshi as CJ on July 26.
