The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday has ordered release of former Minister and spokesperson of the Netra Bikram Chand led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma.
The joint bench of Justices Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Tej Bahadur KC hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by his younger brother Birendra Bishwokarma has ordered the former minister's release.
Bishwokarma was arrested in Kathmandu on August 7 on charge of unleashing terror of extortion. The police said documents recovered from Bishwokarma show that he had extorted Rs 70 million.
The police were conducting investigation taking him into judicial custody. The Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday had extended his custody by two more days.
