The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), the lower house of the Federal Parliament, Thursday unanimously approved the proposal seeking to hold general discussions on the international agreement on establishing peace university.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa had presented the proposal on behalf of Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.
Advocating for the proposal on the occasion, Home Minister Thapa said it was necessary to endorse the proposal in view of the significant role Nepal has been playing in promoting world peace.
The concept of Peace University has been brought with the objective of establishing peace and stability in Nepal, the Home Minister said, adding the university would be relevant and useful in preparing researchers and scholars on establishment of peace.
The House of Representatives will next meet at 2 pm on September 25.
The HoR meeting Thursday has fixed September 23 as the date for the election to the president of the joint committee of both the houses of the federal Parliament.
Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara directed the Parliament Secretariat to publish the election schedule.
The date for the election of the president of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee and the Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of Implementation of the Directive Principle, Policy and Responsibility of the State has been fixed.
These committees are the joint committees of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
