Nepali and Chinese officials will have a dialogue on Kathmandu-Kerung railway on Monday.
Over two dozen officials from the two countries will participate in the bilateral dialogue to be held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Secretary at the ministry Madhusudan Adhikari will lead the Nepali team in the dialogue. Fifteen officials of the Chinese railway administration arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday for the dialogue.
The two sides will discuss the financial modality to build the railway. “We may also discuss about the detailed project report,” Director General (DG) at the Department of Railways Balaram Mishra told Setopati.
The Chinese officials will conduct field study for Kathmandu-Pokhara-Lumbini railway after completing the dialogue.
The ministry and the Chinese railway administration have discussed on the preliminary study on the railway line at Xian, Chine from August 19-22.
China Railway First Survey Design Institute Group had completed a week-long field study by May end. The report was handed over to the Nepali side on August 20. The report has put the estimated cost of 72.25-kilometer railway at Rs 257 billion and it will take nine years to complete it. But there has been little progress after that meeting in Xian.
