The parliamentary hearing committee will investigate citizenship and educational certificates of Samim Ansari recommended for chairman of the Muslim Commission by the Constitutional Council.
The committee, that had received four complaints against Ansari, had summoned the complainants for discussion on Tuesday but only one of the quartet turned up. CPN lawmakers Amrita Thapa Magar and Purna Kumari Subedi, and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal lawmaker Rajendra Shrestha after hearing the complainant during Tuesday's meeting demanded that Ansari's certificates and his party membership be investigated.
CPN Lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai proposed to ask for documents about Ansari's citizenship certificate from District Administration Office, Kathmandu, membership of CPN from the Election Commission, and educational certificates from the Constitutional Council.
The committee decided to seek documents about Ansari as proposed by Bhattarai during the meeting boycotted by the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC).
Permanent resident of Kathmandu-9, Ansari was a leader of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal and had joined the then CPN-UML before the local election. He later became central committee member of CPN after unification of UML and the then CPN (Maoist Center).
The constitution prohibits recommendation of a party member for head of any constitutional body. Many CPN lawmakers are determined to stop Ansari feeling he is getting up by pleasing the leaders.
The parliamentary committee had earlier scheduled to conduct Ansari's hearing on Wednesday but it has now become uncertain after it decided to investigate his certificates.
