The government has removed Secretary Gajendra Thakur from the Ministry of Water Supply.
The Cabinet meeting on Monday has decided to remove Thakur calling him incompetent for inability to satisfactorily move water supply projects forward. The government has not named his replacement though, according to a minister.
The Cabinet has instructed Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi to take decision on that.
"There were repeated allegations of negligence in Melamchi Project against him. He has, therefore, been freed of responsibilities now," the minister told Setopati.
Secretaries are generally kept in reserve pool after being removed.
Thakur was blamed for the Italian contractor Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti (CMC) di Ravenna leaving the project. His relationship with Minister Beena Magar, who had got him transferred to the ministry, deteriorated after CMC quit the project.
Magar herself took the proposal for his removal to the Cabinet, according to the source.
