Founder and Director of Maiti Nepal Anuradha Koirala has joined Nepali Congress (NC) on Sunday.
The CNN Hero for 2010 was welcomed into the party by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba amidst a program held at the prime minister's residence Sunday afternoon.
Koirala has been campaigning against trafficking of women for three decades and has rescued many Nepali women sold to Indian brothels. "Only NC can institutionalize the rights of all communities and lead the country toward economic development and prosperity," Koirala said after being ushered into the party by Deuba, according to a press statement issued by the media expert for PM Govinda Pariyar.
Koirala, ironically, was appointed the minister for women and children by the then king Gyanendra in 2005 after the latter dismissed Deuba for 'incompetence' and took over as the chairman of the council of ministers.
