The Legislature-Parliament meeting has resumed. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajaya Shankar Nayak tabled the Local Bodies Restructuring Bill-2073.
Baidya-led Maoist recommends candidates for local polls
The CPN (Maoist Revolutionary) led by Mohan Baidya 'Kiran' has recommended candidates for local level elections taking place on May 14. The Maoist Revolutionary party has fielded candidates for civic polls in the district through Nationalist People's Republican Front Nepal.
US sets up missile defense in S. Korea as North shows power
North Korea conducted live-fire artillery drills on Tuesday, the 85th anniversary of the founding of its million-person Korean People's Army. On the same day, a U.S. guided-missile submarine docked in South Korea. And the USS Carl Vinson aircraft supercarrier is also headed toward the peninsula for a joint exercise with South Korea.
Army will come to fore in need: Defence Minister
Defence Minister Balkrishna Khand has said the Nepal Army is all committed to guaranteeing security in the local level election. Taking part in a face-to-face program organized by the Reporters' Club here Wednesday, the Defense Minister, recalling the role of NA in security arrangements in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, said, "This time, too, the NA is ready to ensure security of voters and employees to be deputed for the election purpose and of ballot boxes."
Revised amendment bill not in national interest, claims Oli
Addressing a program organized in commemoration of the 18th memorial day of former Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari by the Manmohan Memorial Foundation Wednesday, he said the revised constitution amendment proposal presented by the government in the parliament was more 'anti-nationalist' than the previous one and was capable of having a long-term impact.
UML objects EC decision on vote counting, budget announcement
A delegation led by party parliamentary deputy leader Subash Nembang Wednesday called on Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and commissioners, drawing their attention towards the possibility of an influence to second phase election by the immediate vote counts of the first election. On the occasion, EC commissioners were urged to be attentive towards the sensitivity, credibility and reliability of the election.
Challenges for reconstruction
One of the major challenges faced in the reconstruction process of Nepal is the absence of elected local government. Lack of government in local level was reflected in the major pre-disaster and post-disaster events, where it took months to reach the affected region and still no widely-accepted data is available. In the absence of an elected local government, top-down approach of governance has its own accountability deficit.

I have seen my sisters and friends isolated and treated in discriminatory manner during their first menstruation cycle. They were not allowed to look at the sun, to touch water source, flower, fruits, any male family member, nor even hear their voice. The activist may claim the situation has changed and I do agree but still during every month my loved ones turns into untouchables beings.
