The meeting of ruling coalition parties with the agitating Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) has started at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Minister in Singha Durbar Thursday.

The ruling coalition Thursday morning held meeting with office-bearers of Election Commission (EC) to discuss on postponing the election date. However, Election Commission turned down the proposal of deferring election.

Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba and former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal from ruling coalition and Mahantha Thakur and Mahendra Ray Yadav from RJP-N, among others, are present in the meeting.

The meeting of big 3 parties including the main opposition party CPN-UML with the RJP-N held Wednesday ended inconclusively.

Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba on June 13 had proposed postponement of local election in provinces 2 and 5 to accommodate RJP-N during the meeting of four major parties on Tuesday.

The RJP on Tuesday had started protest programs including general strike to disrupt the local election scheduled for June 28. The party is adamant it will not participate in the second round of local election if the constitution were not amended and number of local units not added in tarai in proportion to the population there.

This may reopen a number of fundamental fault lines in modern macroeconomic thinking between theories that treat the financial system as irrelevant, or, at least, not central to the understanding of economic outcomes, and those that reserve a central role for financial intermediation.
