The mortal remains of Nepali Congress' elder leader and former minister Ramhari Joshi, who passed away at 7.30 pm Thursday, has been kept at the NC main party office Sanepa for paying final tribute.

Joshi, suffering from asthma and pneumonia, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Grande Hospital.

Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday draped the party flag over Joshi's remains to pay tribute amid a program organized at Sanepa.

Likewise, NC senior leader Ramchandra Poudel, leaders Bimalendra Nidhi, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, other leaders and party cadres also reached the party headquarters to pay tribute to him.

Joshi was admitted to hospital after sustaining injuries while falling down in his bathroom on July 5. He had been living at his relative's house at Nakhipot, Lalitpur. His permanent address is Sarlahi.

The elder leader of the Nepali Congress among the party's contemporaries was unmarried. Joshi, who struggled for the party and the democracy for long, was the Minister for Tourism in 1991 in the Girija Prasad Koirala-led government.

Born in Sarlahi district, Joshi was popular among the NC leaders as a Gandhian and socialist leader.

The final rites will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat Friday morning.

Being a buffer state between the two giant neighbors, Nepal should conduct its foreign policy vis-à-vis China and India in a very sensitive manner. Nepal has always maintained that it would not allow its soil to be used against any neighbor. At the same time, Nepal should make sure that its own national interests are never compromised.

  • Effect of monetary policy on risk, stability and financial crises Effect of monetary policy on risk, stability and financial crises

The crisis of 2008–09 has reignited a new interest in understanding money and credit fluctuations in the macro economy, and the crucial roles they could play in the amplification, propagation, and generation of shocks both in normal times and, even more so, in times of financial distress. This may reopen a number of fundamental fault lines in modern macroeconomic thinking between theories that treat the financial system as irrelevant, or, at least, not central to the understanding of economic outcomes, and those that reserve a central role for financial intermediation.
