Long route passenger buses will not be allowed to circumnavigate the Ring Road to collect and drop passengers and will have to use the shortest Kalanki-New Bus Park route while leaving and entering Kathmandu Valley  from Sunday.

The decision to that regard was taken after a meeting of the Director General of Department of Transport Management Rup Narayan Bhattarai, Chief of Metropolitan Traffic Police Mingmar Lama and other authorities concerned on July 13.

"The directives have come into effect to avert traffic jam as well as to ease traffic management," said DoTM Spokesperson Dr Tokraj Pandey.

He informed that those finding violating the directives will be fined up to Rs 5,000 as per the Vehicle and Transportation Management Act 1992.

According to Pandey, the decision would be effective as the directives will be implemented with the consensus among the traffic entrepreneurs.

The vehicles will not be allowed to park at Kalanki but allowed to pick up passengers from Kalanki. With this, buses exiting from Kathmandu willl have to take left from New Bus Park and exit through Kalanki and Nagdhunga while those entering Kathmandu will also have to take left from Kalanki and reach New Bus Park.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Traffic Management Division has also said that discussions would be held among the newly-elected mayors and office-bearers of local levels adjoining the Ring Road for an alternative management of bus parks.
