Nepali Congress (NC) central member Ramesh Lekhak has claimed that the NC would become first in the third round of local elections slated in Province 2 for September 18.

Of the total 136 local levels in eight districts of Province 2, the NC would win in at least 100, he claimed at a press conference organised in the capital Thursday. Lekhak, also coordinator for the NC Central Publicity Coordination Committee, returned recently after participating in election campaign launched by the NC in Province 2.

The province is the origin area of the NC, and it would emerge victorious in the polls, as the party has been working for the welfare of Madhes, and its people since its establishment, he asserted.

The NC is teaming up with other political parties including the CPN (Maoist Center) for some key positions in the polls.

In another context, he said the NC had helped bring the disgruntled parties on board the polls for the sake of enforcing the new constitution, and institutionlising achievements made so far. RSS
