Bandermude incident victims have welcomed the government declaration of those killed in the incident martyr.
Longstanding demand of the victims to declare those killed in the incident has been fulfilled, said a statement issued Friday by the struggle committee.
A Cabinet meeting on Thursday declared 38 people killed in the incident martyr. At least 38 people were killed, and 75 others injured when the then Maoist rebels ambushed an overcrowded bus in Bandermude in Madi in Chitwan on June 6, 2005.
The statement has also drawn the attention of the government to book the perpetrator(s) and provide justice to the kin of those killed and injured in the incident. It also demanded a full shape to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons.
