The government has extended the deadline for disbursement of the second installment of housing grant for earthquake victims.
The meeting of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Director's Committee chaired by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday has decided to extend the deadline for distributing the second tranche of relief amount to mid-April, informed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NRA Yubaraj Bhusal.
During the meeting, PM Deuba said the reconstruction process has been moving ahead on a satisfactory note and also expressed his belief that 50 percent of works will be completed within this fiscal year.
The meeting has also made a plan of distributing the third installment within this fiscal year. However, representative of CPN-UML in the meeting has expressed dissatisfaction on the government's decision of adding Rs 100,000 in the housing grant amount without the committee's decision.
According to NRA, the number of beneficiaries who can receive the second installment of housing grant stands at 233,677. Meanwhile, NRA has enlisted as many as 767,705 quake victims as the beneficiaries. It has stated that an agreement has been reached with 584,468 beneficiaries for the grant.
