The government has replaced District Education Office (DEO) with Education Development and Coordination Unit (EDCU) under the federal setup. With this, all DEOs across the country have been phased out automatically.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology took a decision to this effect. The ministry directed existing Chief Education Officers to work as head of the EDCU under the new structure. DEO was established in 2018 B.S.
A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday had decided to replace the DEO. The EDCU will be under the respective District Administration Office, and it will look after examination procedure of grades eight and ten, keeping records of teachers, and their pension, said Joint Secretary at the Ministry Baikuntha Aryal.
