The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has acknowledged that post earthquake reconstruction task could not take a pace due to policy-level and procedural complexities.
Saying the reconstruction task of private and government structures, damaged by the April 25, 2015 Gorkha earthquake, failed to take expected pace, the NRA said that it would make some policy-level reform and to adopt easy and smooth process for the reconstruction task.
At a news conference organized by the NRA here Tuesday, the NRA officials informed that the NRA is going to adopt a policy to mobilize local levels to accelerate construction of private housings.
Saying 767,705 houses are in the list of beneficiaries and of them, only 119,233 houses have been constructed so far, the NRA said a plan has been brought to accelerate all types of reconstruction tasks by the end of the current fiscal year.
It is said that the reconstruction task could not make the expected progress due to complexities in purchasing of construction materials, and lack of construction materials and information mechanism.
On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of NRA Yubraj Bhusal said that preparation was underway to complete all works related to reconstruction task within five years of establishment of NRA.
A total of 368,761 beneficiaries have so far received second tranche in course of reconstruction task while 123,537 beneficiaries are in the process to receiving third tranche.
NRA Secretary Arjun Karki said that post-earthquake reconstruction was not same as the reconstruction during normal conditions, the NRA failed to achieve remarkable success due to some complexities.
He claimed the reconstruction task would reach to a new height as contract process for the construction of private houses, government buildings, schools and hospitals would begin by the end of current fiscal year.
Karki said that preparation was underway to send a proposal to the Council of Ministers for the resolution of problems facing the NRA.
