An unlicensed pharmacist has been arrested in Jajarkot after a patient died during the course of treatment.
Tilak Bahadur Bohara--who operates a pharmacy, Jayalaxmi Medical Hall, in Thalaha Bazar of Chhedagad municipality 5, has been arrested after Panchakala Nath of Nalfu in Chhedagad-10 died during treatment there.
The deceased's son Kishore Nath claimed that his mother who had gone to the pharmacy after having fever died due to wrong injection administered by Bohara. Relatives of the deceased woman demonstrated in the municipality demanding action against Bohara and compensation for the family.
The arrested pharmacist is being taken to district headquarters Khalanga for additional investigation while the body has been sent to the Jajarkot District Hospital for post-mortem, according to police inspector Lok Bahadur Bista.
Bohara has been operating the pharmacy in Thalaha in the name of Jayalaxmi Medico Firm of Surkhet. He has been operating pharmacy for 21 years despite not being trained for selling medicines and not having received licensed from Nepal Pharmacy Council.
Bohara during the monitoring by local administration last year had conceded that his pharmacy is illegal and promised in writing to shut it down soon.
