Samjhana Das attacked with acid September 11 midnight in Rautahat has died in course of treatment in Kathmandu.
Chief of Kirtipur Police DSP Megh Bahadur Khatri confirmed that she died at Kirtipur Hospital Monday night.
Samjhana Das, 18, and her sister Sushmita, 15, were attacked with acid September 11 midnight while they were sleeping at their home in Chandrapur. They were brought to Kathmandu for treatment.
Samjhana’s father Jado Lal complained that his daughter died due to lack of help from the government in treatment. Sushmita is still undergoing treatment.
Ram Babu Paswan, 50, of Chandrapur-6 has already been arrested and police claim that he has confessed pouring acid due to his unrequited love for Samjhana.
Paswan was arrested from the hospital in Kirtipur, where he had accompanied the girls' father for their treatment, on the basis of call details, complaint of the father identifying him as the culprit and statement of the girls.
Paswan had called Samjhana 180 times in 15 days, according to the call details, and apparently poured acid in anger after Samjhana didn't pick the phone despite making so many calls.
Police said Paswan had reached Kathmandu with the Das family pretending to be helpful.
