Another woman has been stabbed and attacked with acid in Nawalparasi for turning down a marriage proposal on the day Samjhana Das of Rautahat breathed her last in Kathmandu after being attacked with acid two weeks back for rejecting advances.
Basanti Pariyar, 30, of Harbasi in Kawasoti municipality 16 was attacked with acid Monday evening. Bimal Sripali, 37, of the same place stabbed Pariyar on temple and chest and then poured acid on her face and chest, according to Nawalparasi Police.
Sripali was arrested Monday itself while Pariyar is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in Bharatpur.
Sripali and Pariyar, both married, were in a relationship, police said citing preliminary investigation. Sripali had been proposing Pariyar for marriage recently. “It seems Sripali’s marriage is in trouble with divorce proceedings underway,” a police source said. “He wanted to marry Pariyar as a result.”
Pariyar had been turning the proposal down. Police say Sripali attacked Pariyar due to the rejection.
