One person has died of scrub typhus while another has been undergoing treatment for the same.
The deceased has been identified Saraswati Bhatta,22, of Bhulkudaki in Ajayameru rural municipality-4 of the district, according to the District Public Health Office, Dadeldhura. She died during treatment at Dhangadi Zonal Hospital.
Her mother, Harina Devi Bhatta,50, has been referred to Dhangadi after she was also confirmed of carrying the disease, according to Dr Jeevan Kharel. Meanwhile, a medical team has been sent to the affected site in order to stop it from spreading.
Scrub typhus is a zoonotic disease transmitted by the blood sucking larva (chigger) of the arthropod, mite.
Symptoms of the disease include the typical rash and eschar and fever, as well as clinical features such as fever, headache, myalgia, dry cough etc.
