40 Nepali women rescued from India

At least 40 Nepali women have been rescued from New Delhi, India, and brought to Nepalgunj.

Of them, 37 women, who were being sent to gulf countries for overseas employment, were left stranded in New Delhi, while the remaining three had been trafficked to a Delhi-based brothel.

Maiti Nepal and Maiti India on October 23 and 24 rescued the women in coordination with Indian police and Delhi-based Nepali Embassy. The women have been brought to Nepalgunj Monday for rehabilitation after necessary counseling, said Coordinator of Maiti Nepal, Nepalgunj, Keshav Koirala.

Acting on a tip-off, an Indian national was arrested on the charge of trafficking the women. The rescued women would be handed over to the family members, Koirala added.
