The government has decided to observe the 69th National Democracy Day by organizing a variety of programs for three days.
The 69th National Democracy Day Main Celebration Committee chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Monday decided to observe the day for three days on coming February 18, 19 and 20.
The celebration will start with lighting lamps on February 18 as well as cleaning and decoration programs by the municipalities. On the main day, i.e. February 19, a special function shall be held in the presence of the President at the Sainik Manch in Tundikhel in Kathmandu.
Various programs shall also be organised outside Kathmandu valley by the celebration committees chaired by the Chief Minister in the province and the Head of District Coordination Committees in the district.
In Kathmandu, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota chairs the publicity sub-committee while Mayor of Kathmandu Bidya Sundar Shakya leads the decoration and management sub-committee.
The local level government heads chair the celebration committee that will organize morning procession, talk program, seminar, cultural programs and sanitation programs for the three days in the local level. Lighting of lamps shall take place in the evening for three days, including by the diplomatic missions of Nepal.
Falgun 7 in the Lunar calendar is observed every year in commemoration of the end of the 104 year old autocratic Rana regime and establishment of democracy in the country on Falgun 7, 2007 B.S.
