Last week, YouTuber Logan Paul received widespread backlash after he posted a video of himself finding a man who apparently died as a result of suicide.
Paul was filming in the Aokigahara forest in Japan, a popular suicide spot. Though the video was taken down after a few hours, it accumulated hundreds of thousands of views. In the video, Paul and his crew spot a body and approach it, later laughing about the experience.
Though the dead man's face was blurred out and a disclaimer was posted at the beginning of the video, many viewers said that Paul should never have posted the video in the first place. Paul later posted a video apologizing for his actions and stated that he would take a break from social media. Since posting his apology, Paul has not shared any more content on his social media channels.
However, another video that Paul filmed in Japan received backlash as well. In the video, Paul is seen pranking people in Japan. YouTube channel We The Unicorns posted a video showing his disrespectful actions.
Paul's fan base of more than 15.5 million subscribers on YouTube consists largely of young children. Paul, who grew up in Westlake and attended school at Ohio University, posts daily vlogs about his life adventures.
The video appeared on YouTube's Trending videos list before being taken down. Many viewers voiced outrage at YouTube for allowing the video to be posted, since it violates the platform's community guidelines.
