Nepal Police DIG Ramesh Kharel has resigned a day after the government promoted DIG Sarbendra Nath Khanal to IGP.
Kharel announced his resignation through the social networking site Facebook. He has not provided any reason for his resignation in the Facebook post where he has congratulated the newly appointed IGP and expressed gratitude to the police organization, the police family and all the Nepalis.
The Cabinet meeting held at the prime minister's official residence in Blauwatar Tuesday evening appointed Khanal, who was ranked top among the DIGs who were in race for the post. DIGs Kharel was ranked second and Pushkar Karki third.
Kharel, incidentally, was ranked top among the fellow batchmates including Khanal until promotion to DIG when Khanal topped the rankings pushing Kharel to second.
Nepal Police IGP Prakash Aryal and AIGs Kamal Singh Bam, Keshari Raj Ghimire, Jaya Bahadur Chand, Devendra Subedi, Pankaj Shrestha, Pashupati Upadhyaya, Bam Bahadur Bhandari, Bijay Kumar Bhatta, Bijay Lal Kayastha, Madhu Prasad Pudasaini, Madhav Prasad Nepal, Madhav Prasad Joshi, Mingmar Lama, Rana Bahadur Chand and Hemanta Bahadur Pal are retiring on Wednesday.
