Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has insisted on collective efforts among the state, government and the stakeholders concerned to economically empower women.
Stating that the provisions of proportional and inclusive representation have been implemented in every state apparatus by Nepal through the constitution and other laws to ensure the rights of women, the Vice President insisted on socio-economic empowerment of women. He said this while inaugurating the International Women Entrepreneurs Summit- 2018 organized by the South Asian Women Development Forum (SADF) amidst a ceremony here Monday. The Vice President further spoke of the need of respectful coexistence of people despite varied genders to achieve inclusive and sustainable development.
“Women continue to face discrimination against them despite the universal declaration and commitments to end violence against women,” he said, adding that bad social practices and customs remaining as barriers to end such violence were also the challenges for the entire human society to advance towards a better state.
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali stated that economic empowerment of women would support not only the family but also the entire nation to find a way towards progress and prosperity. Besides, it would contribute in making economy inclusive and strong. “The Nepal’s constitution has guaranteed women’s participation at major posts of the state.”
SADF President Pramila Acharya Rijal highlighted the need of a women-friendly policy to encourage women to purse entrepreneurship and achieve identities as successful entrepreneurs.
Ramadevi, President of Association Of Lady Entrepreneurs of India, and International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Nepal’s Director General Dr David Molden echoed the need of training and an access and control of women over economic resources and technology to promote women entrepreneurship.
The three-day event convened with the theme of “Equality begins with Economic Empowerment “is attended by women entrepreneurs from the South Asia and other countries also.
