Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has attributed the rising incidents of rape to capitalism.
Speaking in the State Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday, Thapa has claimed that capitalism increases rapes as it uses women as an object to make profit with.
"America has the highest number of rapes. This is due to capitalism," he said. He said the socioeconomic reasons of rape should be addressed to control the incidents of rape. "Our sisters are used as an object for profit-making industries," he argued.
He also pointed that consumption of liquor and cyber porn should be controlled to reduce the incidents of rapes.
The State Affairs Committee summoned Home Minister Thapa to question him about the rising incidents of rape and violence against women.
There have been incidents of rapes across the country almost every day creating terror in the society. The government has failed to book the culprits involved in rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur even in two months and the blatant destruction of evidence to save the culprits has been widely criticized.
He claimed that the culprits involved in rape and murder of Nirmala Panta will soon be arrested.
