The government will hold a press conference every week to brief about the Cabinet decisions and other government works.
"Government spokesperson will hold a press conference once in a week to brief about the Cabinet decisions and to explain why the decisions were taken," Kundan Aryal, press advisor to prime minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, told Setopati. "The government spokesperson will also speak about other government works and take questions from the media persons during the press conference."
He stated that the government is starting the new practice as it is difficult for ministers to brief about all the decisions while coming out of the Cabinet meeting, and reporting of the decisions in the media is also not effective.
The government clarification has come following widespread criticism after Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota refused to reveal the Cabinet decisions taken on Sunday. "We discussed on many issues and necessary decisions have been made. You will come to know with time," Minister Baskota had told media persons, waiting to report about the Cabinet decisions as always, after coming out of the meeting on Sunday.
Responding to criticisms after Minister Baskota refused to reveal the decisions, Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali told Setopati that the decision to not reveal the Cabinet decisions immediately after the meeting was taken not to hide information but to make it better managed.
