President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba did not attend the Constitutional Council meeting on Wednesday after Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli postponed the meeting thrice.
The meeting, convened to recommend the name of next Chief Justice (CJ), has now been moved to Thursday after Deuba's absence on Wednesday.
Chief personal secretary to Deuba Bhanu Deuba told Setopati that PM Oli changed time of the meeting thrice Tuesday alone. "We had received a letter for 11:30 Tuesday morning. PM Oli then phoned and postponed it to five in the evening citing busy schedule," Bhanu Deuba said. "He postponed the meeting even in the evening citing lack of time."
Deuba and PM Oli talked over the phone Tuesday evening, according to him.
"President Deuba said the meeting should be held after December 18 as NC's mahasamiti meeting is being held from December 14-18," Bhanu Deuba revealed. "PM said OK."
He claimed that PM Oli again called later and informed that the meeting will be held Wednesday morning. "President Deuba expressed inability to attend the meeting stating that a central committee meeting has to be held in preparation for mahasamiti meeting," Bhanu Deuba added.
The meeting has been stopped until Thursday morning after Deuba's absence. Bhanu Deuba told Setopati that President Deuba will attend the meeting on Thursday.
The meeting has been called to recommend CJ, and office-bearers for commissions including the Finance Commission.
