Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Tham Maya Thapa has underlined the need of implementing the existing laws and acts against women violence and making the people aware of the issue to build a safer place for women.
In her address to a preparation meeting in view of the 109 International Women Day (March 8) at the Ministry Monday, the minister highlighted the need of combined efforts to fight against growing cases of women violence in the country.
She was of the view of reaching out to local levels this time with awareness-creating materials, hoping for cooperation from all quarters toward that end.
Ministry Secretary Buddhi Bahadur Khadka called on means of mass media to give a due coverage to messages relating to the March Day.
Representatives from several organizations present in the meeting urged the government to celebrate the Day differently this time.
March 8 every year is observed as the International Women’s Day in commemoration of the first women movement held on March 8, 1910.
The world in celebrating the Day this year with the theme of “Balance for Better”.
