Several civic society organizations have called on the government to find a peaceful way out to the present political issue through talks and understandings by taking agitating forces including the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) led by Netra Bikram Chand into confidence.
In a joint press statement Monday, NGO Federation Nepal; Federation of Community Forest Users’ Nepal; Human Rights Alliance; Campaign for Human Rights and Social Transformation (CAHURAST) Nepal and Federation of Drinking Water and Sanitary Users Nepal have urged this.
“The party activities lately have created fear and panic among the people and such situation should immediately be address through the talks. The recent government decision to be tough against the agitating party and the latter’s announcement to retaliate the government move has increased people’s doubt whether country would again be pushed toward a conflict and in this state of fear, durable peace is not possible and protection and promotion of civic human rights fall under a threat, according to the organizations.
Meanwhile, Naren Khatiwada has been elected the chair of Youth Advocacy Nepal (YAN). The YAN’s fourth general assembly and third general convention concluded on Sunday elected a seven-member new executive committee.
Geeta Chaudray has been elected general secretary, Narayan Kaderiya secretary, Ganesh Thami treasurer and Rama Bhattarai, Om Ramtel and Binaya Karki members.
Newly elected chair Khatiwada promised to work in favor of youths who make up 40.35 percent in the total population.
The YAN expressed its concerns over incidents of violence against women including rape and corruption prevalent in the country, and also demanded ensuring employment opportunities for youths.
