Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said the current government has started investigation of murder of leaders of the then CPN-UML Madan Bhandari and Jeev Raj Aashrit.
"The current government has moved the process of bringing their murderers to book," he said addressing a program at Kathmandu on Friday.
Bhandari and Asshrit were killed when a jeep they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into Trishuli river at Dasdhunga of Chitwan 25 years ago. It has yet to be determined whether that was an accident or a planned murder. But Home Minister Thapa has called the incident a murder.
"Bhandari and Aashrit have made a big contribution to the communist movement in Nepal. They made ideological contribution for success of the democratic and communist movements in Nepal. Bhandari propounded the ideology of people's multiparty democracy," he added.
"The enemies of communist movement, therefore, conspired to stop their campaign. They were murdered and we will bring the murderers to book."
