Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City Bhim Parajuli has deployed municipal police for security of Koirala Residence after the government removed security persons.
Parajuli has deployed three municipal police personnel for security of the residence after the government removed the 13-strong Armed Police Force (APF) team deployed there.
"Security persons have been removed from the residence that led the democratic movement in Nepal due to political prejudice," Parajuli stated. "I oppose such act. It is my duty to provide security for such historic legacy. I have, therefore, deployed municipal police from the metropolis for security of the residence."
Krishna Prasad Koirala and his sons BP Koirala, Matrika Prasad Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala--who all lived in the residence--had started the movement against Rana regime. The three sons went on to become prime ministers while BP and Girija also stayed in the residence during the struggle against Panchayat regime.
The residence looks deserted after death of Girija and Nepali Congress (NC) central member Shekhar Koirala goes to the residence from time to time to meet the party cadres now.
