The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to put pressure on the government through the House to take back media and guthi bills.
A party meeting on Thursday has urged withdrawal of those bills stating that the government has tried to invite conflict by bringing one bill after another without holding discussion with the stakeholders concerned.
The party has also taken exception to the oppression of guthi trustees at Maitighar Mandala on Sunday with utter disregard to the constitutional rights of the citizens to protest bills.
The meeting held at the party office in Sanepa has also decided to convene central committee meeting in the first week of July to set the future course of action after the national awakening campaign, according to NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, other office-bearers, chief whip of the parliamentary party Bal Krishna Khand, central committee members currently in Kathmandu Valley, and party presidents in the three districts in the Valley were present in the meeting.
