During the ongoing deliberations on several headings of the 'Appropriation Bill, 2076 BS' in the House of Representatives, five proposals were presented seeking the reduction in expenditures of several ministries.
The proposals on cutting expenditure are related to Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies; the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Lawmaker Min Bahadur Bishwakarma proposed the House in writing to reduce the expenditure under the heading of Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to Rs one.
Bahadur Singh Tamang proposed to deduct the expenditure mentioned under the travel allowance and skill enhancement training of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to Rs one. Prem Suwal was of the view of undoing the provision of publicity of political parties through advertisement. He demanded an end to discrimination in the classification of newspapers. He proposed to deduct the expenditure under the heading of Ministry of Supplies and Ministry of Communications to Rs one and a significant cut off in the expenditure of Home Ministry.
Dilendra Prasad Badu argued that budget allocated under several headings of Home Ministry seemed inappropriate and it should be deducted.
He took time to draw the attention of Lower House toward weakening security in the country, no progress in identifying perpetrator(s) in the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur and in the murder of nine people in Panchthar. He was of the view of decentralizing the budget allocation by cutting off budget for employee's training.
Dr Narayan Khadka expressed his concern over budget allocated in three headings for miscellaneous budget and proposed to reduce Rs 100 from them. Stating that foreign policy in democratic system could not function well in absence of national consensus, he urged government to garner such consensus.
