The House of Representatives (HoR) was adjourned on Tuesday following the dispute about whether Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli or the main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba should get to speak first.
PM Oli was scheduled to address the issue of guthi bill in the parliament at 11 Tuesday morning. But Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers met Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and requested that Deuba be allowed to speak first.
NC whip Pushpa Bhusal Gautam told Setopati that NC lawmakers pointed to Speaker Mahara that the main opposition leader should get to speak first on the issue of contemporary issues including the guthi bill and warned that the party will obstruct the House proceedings if PM Oli gets to speak first.
Oli went to the rostrum to speak at 12 noon, one hour later than the scheduled time, due to the demand by NC. NC lawmakers encircled the rostrum immediately after PM Oli reached there to start his speech and started to chant slogans.
Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara repeatedly urged the NC lawmakers to hear what PM Oli has to say first and assured that Deuba will be allowed to speak after that but to no avail. They insisted that Deuba be allowed to address first.
Speaker Mahara then adjourned the House until Wednesday.
