Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Bhimsen Das Pradhan has demanded that remuneration of prime minister (PM), ministers and lawmakers be slashed and the money be used to feed the impoverished people.
He met Deputy PM and Defense Minister Ishwore Pokharel on Tuesday and demanded so pointing that many people in the Kathmandu Valley who work for daily wages are struggling for two square meals due to the lockdown and ongoing prohibitory orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Let's slash remuneration and allowances of PM to us lawmakers and make arrangements for feeding the impoverished people," Pradhan, who is the defense minister in the shadow Cabinet of the main opposition NC, said.
He handed over a memorandum letter that included 26 points of demands and recommendations. The demands include preparation of isolation centers in each constituency with the budget allocated for electoral constituency infrastructure program.
He also drew the government's attention toward timely payment of salary and allowances given to health professionals, security persons and other staffers at the frontline of the fight against pandemic.
