Federal lawmakers from the Kathmandu Valley have demanded a parliamentary committee to monitor the government's works to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lawmakers meeting Speaker Agni Sapkota on Friday have demanded a monitoring committee under him as the parliament is not in session now. "We demand that the committee be formed under the speaker and provide suggestions and advice to the government," Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Bhimsen Das Pradhan told Setopati. "We lawmakers alone could not do the works the state needs to do. A committee with secretariat should be formed to advise the government."
Lawmaker of Janta Samajwadi Party Rajendra Shrestha concurred and demanded a monitoring committee including all the parties be formed under the speaker. "We have been demanding a high level political committee right from the beginning," he stated. "The government did not accept that. The House should now take initiative for that."
