Works on measuring the height of the world's tallest peak, Sagarmatha (Mt Everest), have picked up momentum.
The Ministry of Land Reform and Management, Survey Department, has dispatched a five-member team of technicians to Madar at the border between Nepal and India in the first phase for leveling.
Coordinator of the Mt Everest Height Measurement Secretariat and chief survey officer at the Department, Sushil Dangol said a 13-member technical team will be deputed for carrying the task. He said the remaining technicians will leave for Madar on February 12.
All the leveling works up to Madar would be done by the Survey of India and the Nepali team will take up the works from there. The Survey Department is preparing to conclude the leveling works from Siraha to Okhaldhunga within the current fiscal year. The team will conduct leveling works up to 700 meters to 750 meters daily.
Dangol said the team will most probably start its work from Sunday. Presently, leveling is being done from Salleri of Solukhumbu to Bansbari of Udayapur district via the road connecting the Okhaldhunga district headquarters.
