The construction of Sunkoshi Bridge between the Foksingtar of Udayapur and Lichkiramche of Khotang along the Gaighat-Diktel road section had begun four years ago.
However, the basic foundation of the pillars of the bridge has not yet been developed due to sheer ignorance on part of the contractor.
The Gaura Parbati Construction JV Pvt Ltd was awarded the contract for the bridge construction. But, the progress is almost stagnant.
Janak Rai, a local of Foksingtar, complained that even the pillars of the bridge have not been constructed till the date and the bridge construction is like a distant dream.
In the beginning, the company contractor worked for three months and discontinued construction, said Jagannath Khatri of Lichkiramche of Khotang, adding that the contractor resumed the works following mounting public pressure in the meantime but did not endure efforts to complete the task.
It is surprising that the pillars of the bridge have not been built which is quite disappointing, he added.
Locals have also accused that contractor Ram Kumar Thapa had already received payment of 25 % of the total contract amount (Rs 160 million) even without completing the pillars of the bridge over Sunkoshi.
