Security personnel raided a gambling den near the Bus Park in Jumla district headquarters –Jumla–and arrested 14 gamblers on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, police caught them red-handed with stake totaling Rs 251,000, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sitaram Rijal, at the District Police Office, Jumla.
Police seized the amount from the detainees whose identities have not been made public. DSP Rijal shared that most of the arrested gamblers were from Chandannath Municipality of the district.
Keeping in mind the growing cases of gambling, vandalism and excessive alcoholism during the Dashain and Tihar festivals, police here has stepped up the vigilance and launched a special campaign to curb such untoward activities, added DSP Rijal.
