Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Gagan Thapa has sought the government's answer to the House of Representatives (HoR) about the incidents of rape of nuns and murder and disappearances of disciples in ashrams of Ram Bahadur Bomjon.
He has registered question in the HoR on Monday seeking Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa's answer on the issue. Pointing at the media reports about sexual violence, rape and murder inside Bomjon's ashrams, he has sought the government's position on the issue and asked question about the investigation process.
"The victims have been speaking in the media. I have question to honorable home minister on this context: What is the government's position on such heinous crimes when series of investigative reports have been published in the media?" lawmaker Thapa has asked. "Where has police investigation reached? What are the efforts the government has made to stop serious crimes happening in Bomjon's ashram as reported in the media, and to provide security to the victims and deliver justice? I expect answers to these questions through this House."
The government must provide answer to the questions registered in this manner within 10 days of registration of the question, according to the HoR regulations.
Five missing complaints and a rape complaint have been lodged since Setopati published a news report titled 'Series of sexual exploitation and violence in Bomjon's ashrams' on December 26 documenting how four persons are missing from ashrams of Bomjon who lives in the guise of an austere sage.
